A parakeet sits among the cherry blossom. Bright, present, entirely at home. Not comparing this to anywhere else. Just making the most of what is here. That is what these paintings are about. Finding beauty in what is around you. Making the most of the familiar, even when the familiar is new.

In Jamaica there is no spring. The warmth is constant. The green never leaves. You don't learn to wait for things to return because they never really go. And then you move somewhere new. And winter arrives. And with it, a kind of quiet that takes some getting used to. But then spring comes. And with it, colour. And light. And the particular joy of finding the familiar in an unfamiliar place, of realising that this place, little by little, has started to feel like yours.

This work is executed on premium linen with professional deep wooden stretcher support and reinforced cross-bracing. The surface is prepared with multiple acrylic gesso layers and an isolation coat.
The finished work is sealed with a protective archival varnish. Every material decision was made with the same intention as the work itself
