We take everything that made us.

Hopeful for what's ahead, braced for what it costs.

About the Work

Leaving one place and beginning again somewhere new rarely means leaving everything behind. In What We Bring, a suitcase becomes a vessel for memory, identity and the fragments of life that continue to connect us to where we come from.

Set against the changing landscape of Rotterdam, the figure looks towards a new beginning with both hope and awareness of what lies ahead. The flowers represent the imperfect collection of experiences, memories and influences that shape us as we move through the world.

The work reflects on migration as an ongoing process of carrying, adapting and becoming. Learning to make room for the new without losing the significance of what came before.
