About the work
Spring has always carried a particular kind of possibility for me. It is the season of warmth returning, of colour returning, of the world becoming familiar again.
In Spring Has Sprung I & II, parakeets nestle among cherry blossoms, surrounded by the softness of a season they know. For the birds, the warmth is familiar. For me, spring carries something similar: the feeling of recognising a landscape after a period of change.
The cherry blossoms represent hope, peace and the beauty of a new beginning. The parakeets represent migration, adaptation and the search for belonging. Together, they mutter; What does it feel like to arrive somewhere that finally feels a little like home?

In Jamaica spring isn’t very distinct. The warmth is constant. The green never leaves. You don't learn to wait for things to return because they never really go.
But then you move somewhere new and winter arrives with a quiet that takes some getting used to.
The first time I really noticed the parakeets was in spring. And it’s a memory I hope to never forget. Spring is my favourite season, partly because of what it represents to me after periods of darkness. It brings warmth, colour and the sense that something is about to change.
For someone who has experienced migration, that feeling of familiarity can be powerful. Spring Has Sprung is about the beauty of finding familiarity in change. It is about the possibility that somewhere unfamiliar can eventually hold something that feels like home. And perhaps belonging doesn't always arrive as a dramatic moment. Sometimes it arrives like the gentle birth of a cherry blossom.
