About the Work

Leave Me Here is a painting about rest as a radical act. In a world that demands constant output from women, that asks them to carry everything and keep moving, this painting insists on something different: that rest is not laziness, not absence, not a pause between productivity. Rest is a win. A luxury. A state of being that deserves to be seen, celebrated, and protected.

And so I turned to him and said,
although you do not know where I’m going,
you do not know where I’ve been.
I will claim the pleasure that is mine
and lay here at my own whim.
Do not disturb.
Do not call.
Close the door on your way out.
Let me drift to the state I crave most of all.
