Can you see me

original Digital FINE ART Painting
ON Hanhemulhe ARCHIVAL PAPER
50 X 70 CM ( 1 9.69 X 27.56 IN )
2025

one-of-a-kind Unique Piece

Can You See Me opens a visual dialogue about identity, perception, and truth within the LGBTQIA community. It speaks to the experience of being seen only through the lens of a stereotype of being recognised for queerness before being acknowledged as a whole person.

The portrait reveals the tension between exposure and concealment: the purity of the self, stripped of pretence, contrasted with the vivid colours of the rainbow flag that both shield and define. It asks the viewer to look deep, beyond the labels, beyond the masks,  and to truly see the person within.

This painting was a part of the Colours of Us exhibition and series, which confronts societal stigma and the quest for visibility. Created over approximately 17 hours across three days, the work resonates with urgency and vulnerability, inviting viewers to question prejudice and embrace empathy.

The distinction between a standard print and a fine art print, particularly in my work, lies in the treatment of the digital medium. I approach the digital canvas with the same dedication as a traditional one, employing various brush strokes, tools, and techniques to enhance depth and fully explore the creative possibilities of digital art. As an acrylic artist, I incorporate acrylic elements into my digital creations and often finish them with oils, spray paint, markers, and specialized brushes. This process adds depth, dimension, and layering, bringing each piece to life.
